Becoming a mom is an exciting and wonderful thing. Now that you’re welcoming your little bundle of joy into your home, it’s time to make the necessary preparations. One of the first things to set up when expecting a baby is the baby nursery. This will serve as the baby’s room, and thus extra effort has to be put in the designing of the room.

Decorating your dream baby nursery is more than just choosing the right paint or wallpaper. A lot of factors work together to make the perfect dream nursery for your baby.

Before anything else, you should first think about the furniture you plan on getting. Estimate the size of the room and make sure it accommodates the furniture you’re getting; while at the same time allows anyone to move freely around the room without bumping into things. The most basic furniture you can get for your nursery is the crib, changing table, dresser, and rocker chair. Placement of furniture is also important because you want the crib to be placed in a safe spot in the room.

Then, it’s time to deal with the aesthetics of the baby nursery. Think of a color scheme that suits your preferences. As much as possible – stick to neutral colors that are not gender-biased. You can either use paint or patterned wallpapers, or you can go the extra mile and have a mural. Focusing on a central color theme will make the room more color coordinated and pleasing to the eye.

Flooring is another thing to consider in your nursery. You have the choice to have carpet flooring or wood, and each comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. Although a carpet floor is soft and comfortable enough to double as a play area, it is also more difficult to clean. Dust mites and carpet fibers may also pose as a threat to your child if he or she has asthma. It can serve as cushion though in case the baby falls out of the crib or is accidentally dropped. Wood flooring, on the other hand, is easier to clean, but dangerous if the baby falls on the floor.

Lighting, artwork, baby essentials, baby beddings, curtains, and other accessories also contribute to creating the dream baby nursery.
